Hyundai Palisades Service and Repair

The Hyundai Palisade is a newer version of the Santa Fe XL, it has been in production since late 2018. It is now the flagship SUV from Hyundai and is the largest of their vehicles delivered stock with three rows of seats. The drive train is either front wheel or all wheel drive. The engines are a V6 design 3.5 or 3.8L 2018-2024. New for 2025 the Palisade has changed to an inline 4 cylinder engine, the i4 2.4L and is available in gas, diesel or hybrid.
Hyundai’s are less costly than other vehicles in the same class that will give years of service provided they are regularly maintained. The forefront of Hyundai engine design is fuel economy. Their engines are designed with very little clearance between the components. Hyundai engines with this design require constant lubrication. This means the oil should be changed on schedule as driving over the suggested mileage causes the engine oil to break-down, becoming thick and unable to sufficiently lubricate, this puts engine components at risk of premature wear.
Service is important for the Hyundai Palisade. Not just engine oil but other fluids like engine coolant, transmission fluid and brake fluid are advised to be inspected and tested approximately every 5000 miles and replaced when needed. Engine coolant should last 60,000 miles but as a precaution have your auto garage check the level and condition at every service, whereas, the brake fluid does not last as long as the engine coolant. The Hyundai Palisade brake fluid should be replaced every 2 years in the San Francisco Bay Area due to our close proximity to the Ocean as well as the extra work the brake system undergoes to bring a large passenger SUV like the Hyundai Palisade to a stop. Transmission fluid change interval is 60,000 miles, but again this should be checked yearly or more if you suspect a leak. Don’t let the level drop below the manufacturer minimum, nor run compromised fluid. A transmission replacement is a very expensive undertaking.
Annually, the Palisade engine cooling system should be checked for leaks or seepage to prevent radiator failure which could be catastrophic for the engine. Another area of concern which requires regular inspection is the brakes. These are vital to all cars but especially critical to a large passenger SUV like the Hyundai Palisade. The loaded down vehicle weight of the 7 passenger Hyundai Palisade could exceed 5,000 lbs and if it’s towing obviously more. It takes a brake system working at its optimal performance level to efficiently bring a passenger van like the Palisades to a stop. Then consider how much work abrupt stops, stops from high speed or downhill braking require of the brake system. To ensure the Hyundai Palisade is ready for touring and towing, the vehicle should undergo a complete brake inspection annually. The inside and outside brake pad thicknesses should be measured, the brake rotor surfaces should be inspected and the thickness also measured. During this inspection the hand brake should be checked and the brake fluid tested. Any brake related lights or messages should be reported to your auto garage immediately.
Since the Hyundai Palisade is a passenger SUV capable of transporting 7 people and their gear, it is advised to have annual inspection of the under carriage of the vehicle. The suspension should be evaluated at the same time. It’s common for the front struts and rear shocks to show wear over 60,000 miles. Because it’s a large vehicle the ride comfort is negatively impacted if the SUV is driven with worn out suspension, therefore it’s advised to replace the front struts and rear shocks when they test bad. In extreme cases continuing to drive with worn out struts and shocks can be considered a safety concern.
Another potential problem area to have looked at are the motor mounts. These are oil filled rubber parts which anchor the engine sub-frame to the vehicle body. They are constantly absorbing road movement to prevent parts from rattling loose around the engine. The mounts wear out usually because the rubber dries, cracks and the hydraulic oil leaks out. It’s important to replace these when they go bad as you avoid repairs to other components, commonly wiring and hoses from being damaged due to the increased movement.
